Around 1898, a hardware wholesaler named Taisaburo Shigematsu improved the product based on a knife he brought back from Kagoshima. It first became popular in the Kumamoto area of ​​Kyushu, so it was sold under the name ``Higonokami Knife.'' It quickly became a huge hit nationwide. At its peak, there were 40 registered manufacturers, making it a major industry in Miki City, but the number began to decline as the needs of the times changed. Recently, it has been in the spotlight worldwide due to its resurgence. Currently, only one company, Nagaokoma Seisakusho, can use the ``Higonokami'' registered trademark. We will continue to work hard every day to pass on our traditions to future generations.
