This Japanese hook knife can be used even on hard Japanese hardwoods. It carves out concave shapes for spoons, bowls, kuksas, and more. The blade is made of "high-speed steel" for superior edge retention, with an extremely soft iron base. It's sharp and easy to sharpen. The blade bites into hardwoods and carves smoothly as if drawn in. The handle is made of high-grade natural cherry wood. The rounded handle makes it easy to hold. For right-handed users, push the back of the blade (the side opposite the cutting edge) with your finger towards you to scoop out material. For left-handed users, push it away from you. The scooping knife blades are finished entirely by hand. The blade shape may vary slightly between individual items.
The Spoon Carving Knife Shallow is suitable for shallow carving. It's perfect for carving concave areas in spoons and bowls. If you need to carve straight, a separate carving knife or general knife is required.
